There are all kinds of alarms. There’s alarm clocks, fire alarms, burglar alarms, an alarm that lets you know your apple pie is ready, etc. All these alarms are to let you know that your immediate attention is needed. So how do we think of an alarm when it comes to the Law of Attraction and your thoughts? We know that what you focus on and give your attention to, is what you’re going to attract. Sometimes you may not be aware of what you’re thinking about because you’re not used to focusing on that. However, you’ve got to check in with yourself from time to time and become very aware of what you’re thinking about because that determines what you’re going to attract.
Are you thinking about something you want? Are you thinking about something you don’t want? Are your thoughts consumed with something negative? Sometimes you may think you’re thinking about what you want, but it’s not in a positive way. That can happen when you think thoughts like “I don’t want to have so many bills to pay.” That thought is too focused on what you don’t want. A better statement about that would be “I want to be financially free so I can buy whatever I want!” Can you tell/feel the difference between those two statements?
Law of Attraction And Your Thoughts
A good way to find out if you’re focusing on what you want is to ask yourself “If I had an alarm attached to my thoughts and it went off every time I thought about something negative, how often would it be going off?” You can also think of it going off every time you think about something you don’t want.
For most people, that alarm would be going off a lot! What about for you? That answer gives you a good idea of if you’re focusing on what you want or not.
If you realize that your thought alarm is ringing throughout the day that’s a sign that you need to improve those thoughts. What you think about causes you to feel a certain way (good or bad) about something. That feeling is also known as a vibration. If you’re thinking about something you don’t want, you would be sending out a low vibration about it. The Law of Attraction is matching that vibration and saying “OK – here’s more of that.” Of course you don’t want to attract what you don’t want. When you realize you’re focusing on what you don’t want remember to ask yourself “What do I want?” By doing that you’re deliberately shifting your thoughts to what you do want, and therefore sending out a higher vibration. It sounds simple, but actually doing it takes dedication.
High Vibrations Low Vibrations?
All this talk about vibrations may sound confusing, but it really isn’t. Just think of it in this way. If what you’re thinking about makes you feel good, keep thinking about it. If what you’re thinking about makes you feel bad, you have to think about it in a more positive way. Thinking about it in a more positive way is raising your vibration about it. The higher the vibration the better. Another way to say that is the better it feels the better.
Sometimes when our thought alarm goes off it’s easier to think about a completely different topic that makes you feel good. By doing that you’re putting yourself in a higher vibration. A higher vibration means it makes you feel better and you’re setting yourself up to attract what you want. For example, maybe your thought alarm goes off because you realize you’re thinking about how much money you don’t have. When you realize that, think about something that you enjoy doing. Maybe you enjoy hiking. So deliberately start thinking about what you like about hiking. Maybe you like the feeling of being one with nature, feeling the fresh air, seeing the little critters during the hike. Deliberately shifting your focus from lack of money to something you enjoy doing is raising your vibration.
You have to realize that the higher you keep your vibration in general, you’ll attract circumstances and experiences that are high vibration. That’s why diverting your thoughts from what you don’t want to what you do want is so important.
How Long Does It Take To Slow Down Your Thought Alarm?
You may be wondering how long it takes to slow down your thought alarm from ringing so much. There’s no one answer to that question because it’s different for everyone. However, the more you realize when your thought alarm is going off and deliberately stop it, the less it will ring. With time and practice your thought alarm will hardly go off at all.
I’ve had clients tell me that when they first start coaching, their thought alarm was constantly going off. Once they used some of the tools they learned in coaching, their alarm started going off less. After a while they’ve told me that it hardly goes off at all. I think that’s amazing that we can control that! By doing that we’re taking control of our thoughts which is vital to attracting what you want. What we think about we attract. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather attract what I want than what I don’t want!
Like Thoughts Attract Like Thoughts
It’s also important to remember that like thoughts attract like thoughts. So when you deliberately shift your thoughts from what you don’t want to what you do want, more positive thoughts come in. It’s amazing how that always happens. Sometimes during a coaching call I’ll ask someone to tell me some positive aspects about something we were talking about. At first they only think of a few. I coach them to keep thinking about it because I know there’s more positive thoughts there. Within a few minutes they come up with lots more positive thoughts about it because that’s what they were deliberately trying to think of.
You’re in more control than you think when it comes to what you’re thinking about and focusing on. Sometimes in the beginning it may even feel a little strange to start taking control of it. Your mind is like “What are you doing – we’re not used to focusing on what we want!” But with time and practice it feels more natural to decide what you’re thinking about, and you’ll never go back to random thinking. Random thinking sets you up to fail. Deliberate thinking sets you up to succeed. Besides it feels better to deliberately focus on what you want, and on things that make you feel good.

It’s also a great idea to randomly get used to asking yourself “What do I want?” about various areas of your life because it forces you to think about what you want, over what you don’t want.
